"Flickr’s model...This summarizes the problem:

"Flickr’s model relates to the fact that people attribute value to the photographs that they take and the memories that they capture. The value is realized in the moment that the photo is viewed in the online album. ...

Conversely, the value of Instagram is more about the present than it is the past. “Help me share the experience I’m having right now.” ...The value in this situation is realized at the moment that the person snaps a picture and adds it to the stream on Instagram."

MMS was also predicated on the sharing concept but it is of marginal value because it was too expensive and not universally available.

Flickr solved the shoebox problem while Instagram solved the making duplicates and sending them to friends job.

I would add that the old Polaroid camera holds a clue to another job people hire photos for. I know somebody who recently bought a Polaroid camera and is very satisfied to hire it at parties where he can create excitement by letting people pass around photos recently taken. The job to be done is to have a physical object of discussion. Nothing else solves it. However having that photo digitally available on everyone else's phone is nearly the same thing.

The opportunities for innovation in mobile photos still abound.

What causes companies to miss these opportunities is what disruption is all about.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12222291218742965333noreply@blogger.com
